Worship: the common ground

Some Mormon missionaries came by to visit the other day. When they came into my living room, one of them saw my church hymnal on the piano and he asked to look through it. I told him that we have one of their traditional hymns printed in my church's hymnal, "Come, Come Ye Saints." As he perused through the index, he named the many titles he recognized. Afterwards we talked about the many things our different faith traditions have in common, and worship being one of them. Before they left, they thanked me for the wonderful conversation and for being able to talk with someone who understood their religion and their missionary experiences. After all, I too have gone through the same journeys they have -- I've done missionary work, I've gone door to door. I know rejection and I know warm welcomes. Seems like we have more in common than we have different.

Surely we worship the same God. Turns out, we even sing to Him the same hymns. We express to Him our pain, and in our suffering we sing, "Be Still My Soul." We share our joys and in awe we sing, "How Great Thou Art." In the Christian experience, we find that our expression to God through worship is something we collectively share. As the body of Christ, from whatever community or denomination we come from, we are God's people, His beloved children, and we mourn, and cheer, and shout with all creation.

Wherever you are in your faith journey, whatever your faith tradition -- you are welcome to join us at Worship Circle. We want you to have a place where you can belong, where you can worship God and join a body of believers who find hope and peace as we sing to our Savior.
