Can I ever be forgiven? This is the one question that had been my mind for a long time. See, there was a time I did not even know I needed saving because life as I knew it is what you make it. You are as good as you are and I was not aware of sin.
True story. I grew up in a Christian home but even then sin was not a real concept for me. Then I started to clearly see the Man, Jesus Christ and wondered if I could ever be like Him: perfect, good, everything a man needed to be. Yes, I am a hopeful romantic. So I gazed closer and closer at this Man, watching Him to see how He did things and imitating Him and this journey led me places. One of those places was the waters of baptism, because He went there.
There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s vein;
And sinners plunged beneath the flood lose all their guilty stains
And sinners plunged beneath the flood lose all their guilty stains.
The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
And there may I though vile as he, wash all my sins away.
Wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away,
And there may I though vile as he, wash all my sins away
Thou dying lamb! Thy precious blood shall never lose its power,
Till all the ransomed church of God are saved to sin no more.
Are saved to sin no more, are saved to sin no more,
Till all the ransomed church of God are saved to sin no more.
E’er since by faith I saw that stream Thy flowing wounds supply.
Redeeming love has been my theme and shall be till I die.
And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die.
Redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.
The day I was in that pool of water, November 28, 2009, the people around me were singing this song. And I do remember, though there is a chance that I'm wrong, that they were singing the second verse when I was going under that water. Right when the people were singing, “wash all my sins away” I went into the water. It is heaven’s orchestration I say. Yes, I was like the thief on the cross, and very much saved like him. I am glad there is a fountain, and that sins can be forgiven, no matter how vile.
